Can a 9-Month Old Out Smart Me?

Ok, so I feel like one of those hypochondriatic mothers. I honestly didn't take Booker to the doctor for everything, but Bodey has proven to be different. Twice I have second guessed myself about how sick Bodey was, and twice he has landed himself in Children's Mercy. So anyways, Bodey went to the doctor this week for a mom-diagnosed ear infection. Bodey had been up screaming for several nights in a row. Not just crying, but screaming at the top of his lungs. I have always been the "cry it out" kind of mom, but this kid just wouldn't. This may sound bad, but I let him cry for 45 minutes at my wits end. He has also been tugging at his left ear. But all of this only happened at night. So I thought for sure that he had some drainage at night that was bothering his ears. And Dr. Yu says... "His ears look wonderful. I think he is having nightmares. Try leaving a light on for him. That should help." Hum. I feel stupid. That night, I left a dim light on for him, and the little bugger slept from 8pm to 5:20am. That could be a record. Oh yeah, and about the ear tugging... supposedly my little smart Bodey has realized that I react every time he tugs on his ear. And now he knows that is a way to get my attention. Oh, we have a long road ahead of us!

Booker Decides He's a Big Boy!

I'm not really sure what happened, but Booker decided all of a sudden that he was going to go potty on the big boy toilet. As you may remember, we went through a span of time where Booker said he wanted to go potty, but just sat and did nothing. He decided on Sunday that he was ready to do the real thing... and he went! It was pretty exciting. We celebrated - a lot. He got stickers and high fives and hugs and kisses and cheering... AND he got to wipe (do all boys wipe?), flush, and wash (his hands). I guess all this was worth doing it again. He is telling me and Nicole (daycare) almost every time he needs to go. People tell you all the time that they will learn when they are ready. I just figured that meant when he was 5, not 2! Dusty and I are so proud of him, and he is so proud of himself! He even has new "truck" pull-ups. I really hope this isn't just another "phase" he is going through that gets old after a few days. But so far, so good. Someday we might only have one kid in diapers - ah, there is a God!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

From Saturday to Saturday, Dusty and I survived our first vacation away from the kiddos. It truly was a vacation, we just layed around on the beach and hung out at the pool swim-up bar. We did do one "excursion" though, and I'm so glad we did. It started out on a speedboat about 8 miles across the bay. Then we got in Mercedes ATVs (the trucks with the benches in the back) and rode up part of the mountain. From there we found ourselves on Coyote and Wilbur, aka the poor donkies that had to haul us up even higher into the mountains. Then our way back down the mountain consisted of ziplines and rappelling. It was absolutely beautiful and a once in a lifetime experience for us. I'll post pictures of that trip when I get them, but for now, here are just a few pics from paradise.

Catch Up

So, I feel really bad that I haven't blogged in a while, but this girl has been busy! Dusty and I just got back from a VACATION to Mexico. Let me just say, it was absolutely wonderful, but there is nothing better than the moment you see your two little boys you haven't seen in over a week. I think the next few vacations will be FAMILY vacations; I just missed them so much. I couldn't wait to get home and squeeze Bodey's fat rolls on his legs and hear Booker tell me "Har Yu" (Love You in Booker language). Even though I worried about leaving my kids, I know they couldn't have been in a better place... Nana and Papa's house. Thank you Nana and Papa for the sleepless nights and rounds of time-out, just so we could enjoy ourselves on the beach. You guys are great and we are SO fortunate to have you.

Booker's newest obsession is bugs and fish... gee, fancy that! One evening while I was mowing the lawn, my neighbor Rachel took the boys to her house to play. Booker found two rolly pollies and put one in each hand. And he held them. And he held them. He just carried on playing like they weren't even there. Then, when he need his hands, he would set them down, do what he needed, and pick them back up. Booker got a fishing pole for his birthday and finally got to go "fishing" with dad. I think it was more of a treat for Dusty than it was Booker. Dusty has been waiting for the day that he can take his boys hunting and fishing. Booker caught two fish on his first trip out. They are two peas in a pod, and I think this picture proves it.

Before we left to Mexico, Bodey decided that there is a party in his crib... every night! I used to just lay him down and whalla! he was asleep. Not anymore... see for yourself:
